Great Change has been brought by UPSC (though i am late in commenting) to have only one subject.
This is further better for people who are working and do not want to join coaching as now people get more time to prepare for only one optional.

thanks for the above article. have to admit that the above points if considered seriously could easily double your efficiency. i am a working lady and have currently joined online coaching for IAS preparation @ http://www.wiziq.com/course/7109-upsc-civil-services-general-studies-prelims-cum-mains-exam-preparation ..,,,so such kind of articles are really helpful for me in managing my daily schedule,,, thanx for that .. :)
